County Tax Bill Estimator

About This Tool:
The Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF), in partnership with the Indiana Business Research Center (IBRC) at Indiana University, created the below tax bill projection utility for Indiana taxpayers. This tool will allow the taxpayer to enter their home’s assessed value, taxing district, and possible deductions to see a range of tax bill estimates.

The estimates provided by this tool are projections only and should not be taken as a statement of true tax liability.

This tool will also show the impact of the recently-passed legislation capping property taxes. For homesteads, this cap rate is 1.5% of gross assessed value for taxes payable in 2009, and 1% of gross assessed value for taxes payable starting in 2010. For other residential property, the cap rate is 2.5% of gross assessed value for taxes payable in 2009, and 2% for taxes payable starting in 2010.

For Marion County users, this tool will include a range of post-retrending tax rates to see the likely impact of the retrending in Marion County. Once official figures have been received and the new 2006-Pay-2007 budget order for Marion County has been certified, the projections will be replaced with a single column listing the certified rates and resulting tax figures.

For Shelby County users, this tool will calculate a tax bill estimate based on the newly certified rates as a result of retrending.

To Calculate an Estimate of Your Bill:
Select a tax district from the dropdown box at the top of the form. The district numbers match the district number you receive on your bill. Enter an assessed value for the property.
