About Vital Statistics Data
Births and deaths are tabulated each year by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH). Indiana is part of a federal-state cooperative with the National Center for Health Statistics so that the collection and publication of these data are standardized across all 50 states.

- Birth rates, also called crude birth rates, are live births per 1,000 population
- Death rates are age-adjusted death rates per 100,000. Age-adjusted rates allow one to compare death rates between geographies (learn more )
