Data tabulated from the Indiana Department of Revenue, based on the IT-40 tax returns for the year, provide insight into the residence and work patterns among and between counties.
Census Commuting Patterns
Census data provide the most insightful and comprehensive view of commuting. First, the question is geared to solicit that information specifically (unlike the derivative we use from the annual tax data). Second, it allows us to view commuting across borders into specific communities of other states. We recommend that you look at both the Census 2000 commuting maps and then consider the trends from the annual data above. If you have questions, please let us know.
