About the Statistical Areas

Metropolitan (MSA) and micropolitan statistical areas are delineated by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Updates to these definitions are generally made every two years based on the most recent Census Bureau population estimates.

STATS Indiana follows the implementation schedule of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). New statistical area delineations are not reflected on STATS Indiana until BLS implements these changes into their Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) program. This page lists the changes that have been implemented in each vintage of the statistical area delineation.
